Downtown Districts
Carr Square – In the early 1800s, there was housing for immigrants looking for their dream in America. By the 1920s the community was a melting pot of nationalities. Today the area is a working class community. There are green spaces, neighborhood retail, schools and social services for young and old.
Central Business District – Home to more than 3500 hotel rooms, seven million square feet of office space, and part of a new development that will create more living space for the district.
Civic Center – This area features some of St. Louis' oldest and most iconic historic buildings. Along with the City Hall, courts, and Post Office, it also features the Scott Trade Center and Union Station. Major employers include Wells Fargo Advisers and Anthem Blue Cross.
Columbus Square – The tree-lined streets and modern housing of Columbus Square give this area in the heart of the city a suburban feel. Blocks from the Edwards Jones Dome (home of the St. Louis Rams) and America’s Center, and just a few steps away from the thriving Washington Avenue business district.
Cupples Station/Ballpark District – The first sports-anchored, entertainment district in St. Louis. Next to Busch Stadium (home of the St. Louis Cardinals), teeming with local eateries, watering holes, and a sportsman camaraderie you can't find anywhere else. Cupples Station provides modern loft apartments for those interested in living in this area.
Downtown West, Riverside North (LaCledes) – Bustling with street-level activity, Downtown West is almost synonymous with St. Louis Downtown. Riverside North, known more often as LaClede's Landing, is also a high-activity area of the city. Both come from industrial backgrounds, offer beautiful views of historic architecture, and are prominent in the Downtown Now! City revival.
Washington Avenue (Wash Ave)/Historic Garment District – This area is urban living at its finest. Heralding its former life as the garment and fashion hub of St. Louis, the architectural splendor has been restored to contemporary lofts, great dining, and some of St. Louis' best nightlife.
